Our young people are full of promise and potential, but face challenges to their wellness – including higher rates of mental illness and substance use than any other age group.
In Canada, an estimated 70 per cent of mental health problems begin during childhood or adolescence.
While evidence-based treatments and counselling services are available in BC they are not easy to access. Langley youth are struggling to navigate the system, and wait lists and stigma prevent youth from getting the services they need at the time they need it.
While one in five young people aged 15 to 24 report experiencing mental illness or substance use problems, fewer than 25 per cent of those in need receive appropriate services.
Young people who don’t know where to go often resort to walk-in clinics, their local emergency departments or worse - go nowhere and suffer in silence.
Foundry Langley will offer young people 12-24 access to mental health and substance use support, primary care, peer support and social services.
$2.1 million to transform 20618 Eastleigh Crescent, the chosen site for Foundry, into an environment designed with young people in mind to welcome them and address all their health care concerns; and to start an Innovation Fund that will provide ongoing funding to the centre for staff to quickly create new programs and respond to emerging and urgent needs.
With your support, we can have a profound and positive impact on the health journey of thousands of Langley young people and their families.
